Paul Newacheck, DrPH is Professor of Health Policy and Pediatrics at the
Philip R. Lee
Institute for Health Policy Studies at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Newacheck is a nationally-recognized expert in the areas of children’s health care access and insurance, and the epidemiology of chronic illness in children. He chaired the expert panels for the National Survey of Children’s Health and the National Survey of Children with Special Health Care Needs, joint undertakings of CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics and the federal Maternal and Child Health Bureau. He has spent many years studying socioeconomic and racial/ethnic disparities in children’s health care access, use, and financial burden, and currently co-directs the Center on Social Disparities in Health at UCSF.
Dr. Newacheck’s work has been influential in the development of state and federal policy for children’s health care, and he has been an advisor to federal policymakers as a member of the Board on Children, Youth and Families for the National Academy of Sciences and as a member of the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics.
